Edit PDF Text
Click existing text in a PDF and change it. Position, size and colour are preserved, and the file is never uploaded.
What it does
When you need to fix a date, a misspelt name or an amount and the original source file is long gone, this tool does the job. Click the text you want to change and type the new version; the old text is covered and the new text is written in the same spot with a similar size and colour.
It is made for short corrections. The font may not match exactly and the old text stays inside the file, so use Redact PDF, not this tool, to remove anything private.
How to use it
- Drop your PDF file.
- Click the text you want to change and type the new version.
- Press "Save and download".
When is it useful?
- Correcting a misspelt name
- Updating a date or price in a quote
- Changing the variable fields in a PDF you use as a template
- Fixing small typos without re-typesetting
Tips
- Keep new text roughly the same length as the old; longer text can spill over neighbouring content.
- For paragraph-level changes, convert with PDF → Word, edit, and export a new PDF.
Frequently asked questions
- How does the editing work?
- When you click a piece of text, the old text is covered and the new text is written in the same place at the same size. The document is not re-typeset; only that text is replaced.
- What if the new text is longer than the old one?
- Longer text spills to the right and can overlap nearby content. Short replacements of similar length come out clean. For bigger rewrites, typing over the page with the "Fill & Sign PDF" tool is safer.
- Will the font be an exact match?
- No. The embedded font in a PDF usually cannot be extracted, so this tool uses Inter while preserving size, position and colour. The match is less obvious in large headings.
- Which pages does it work on?
- Rotated pages (90/180/270 degrees) are not supported and the tool tells you so. Other pages can be edited.
- Is the text I cover up completely removed?
- Visually yes: the text is no longer visible. Technically, though, the old text stays in the PDF content stream, so someone copy-pasting could still read it. For genuinely sensitive data, use the "Redact PDF" tool, which permanently removes the text underneath.
- Is my file uploaded?
- No. Both text extraction and PDF generation happen in your browser, inside a separate Web Worker.
- Does it work on scanned PDFs?
- No. It uses the page's text layer, and scans have no clickable text. To add text to a scan, use Fill & Sign PDF, or make it searchable first with OCR PDF.
