Unlock PDF

Remove the password from a PDF you have the password for, and lift printing and copying limits. Nothing is uploaded.

What it does

Bank statements, payslips and some official documents arrive password-protected. Typing the password every time gets old, and some apps refuse to merge or edit these files. If you know the password, this tool removes it and gives you a copy that opens anywhere.

For files with no open password and only printing or copying restrictions, the tool lifts those limits without asking for a password. No cracking or guessing is involved, and everything happens in your browser.

How to use it

  1. Drop your password-protected PDF.
  2. Type the open password if one is asked for.
  3. Press "Unlock and download" to get an unprotected copy.

When is it useful?

  • Removing the password from a bank statement before importing it into accounting software
  • Combining protected documents with Merge PDF
  • Making your own print-restricted document printable
  • Archiving files so they no longer ask for a password

Tips

  • Before sharing an unlocked file, check whether it contains personal data.
  • After unlocking, send the file to Merge PDF, Compress PDF or PDF → Excel with one click.

Frequently asked questions

Can I open a PDF if I do not know its password?
No. This tool does not crack or guess passwords; for files that need an open password, you have to enter the correct one.
Does it remove printing or copying restrictions?
Yes. On PDFs that have no open password and only restricted permissions, the restrictions are removed without asking for a password.
What is kept in the unlocked file?
Pages, text, images, bookmarks and document details stay as they are; only the encryption is removed.
Is my password sent anywhere?
No. The password and the file are used only in your browser's memory.
Is it legal to remove a password from someone else's file?
Only use it on files you are entitled to open, where the owner gave you the password. The tool does not crack passwords, so it only works with one you already know.
